Mt. Diablo Sunset Summer Kick-Off Event
Mount Diablo rises 3840 feet above the sea. Coined "monte del diablo" by the Spanish settlers, "the devil's mountain", Mount Diablo has long been one of the Bay Area's icons. On a perfect day, you can see from the Farallon Islands to the Sierras!
We will gather at Safeway at 6:15 for a short orientation before heading up the mountain. If you'd like to get dinner, there are a number of local eateries to get sandwiches, salad, or other takeout. The park has a $10 fee at the gate to get in per vehicle.
We will drive the summit (45 mins) and picnic in the lower summit parking lot and watch the sunset. The park closes promptly at sunset when the rangers will sweep us off the mountain. The drive down truly is a color display in the sky as the bay area lights up below! Arrival in Walnut Creek is expected at 9:15.
In my testing, up and down the mountain takes ~10-15% of the battery.

Acterra's annual celebration and benefit is not an EV-specific event, although it will include a presentation by electrification expert Tom Kabat. Come hear his wisdom, along with other equally impressive speakers, including: “turning buildings into Teslas” innovator Donnel Baird (BlocPower), global solutions expert Dr. Jonathan Foley (Project Drawdown), and State Senator Josh Becker. A highlight of the evening: Acterra will recognize local community heroes who were nominated by their peers as the 2023 "Champions of Promise." Last but not least, we will have a Fund-a-Future segment to help raise money to keep Acterra's climate action programs growing far into the future.Tickets range from $0 to $75 (VIP), or donate what you will. I will be attending the event, and hope you will join me in celebrating and supporting Acterra!
More 2023 EVents and volunteer opportunities are coming soon!...
